Walk through any supermarket and pick up a packet of pepper, a box of tea, or a bag of seasoned nuts. Read the label. You will often find ingredients you did not expect: anti-caking agents, flavour enhancers, preservatives, artificial colours. None of these exist because the product needs them. They exist because they are cheap, convenient, and most people never check.
At Monorom, we started from the opposite direction. We asked: what is the minimum needed to make a product that is genuinely good? The answer, almost always, was the ingredient itself.
Good pepper does not need additives. Properly dried roselle does not need preservatives. Roselle flower, for example, is naturally rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. It has been used across Southeast Asia for generations as a cooling tea, a digestive aid, and a natural source of hydration. When you brew it as a tea, the deep red colour is not a dye — it is the plant. That is what clean product looks like.
Cashews roasted with real spices do not need MSG to taste good. They need good cashews and good spices. The difference is obvious the moment you taste it.
We are not trying to be preachy about this. We are trying to offer an alternative — products where you can read the label and understand every word on it. That should not be unusual. But right now, it is. And that is exactly the gap Monorom is here to fill.
